Adam Sohmer biography
With
nearly two decades of hands-on experience in technology-centric public
relations, Adam Sohmer launched Sohmer Associates, a PR agency specializing
in small- to medium-sized companies in the consumer electronics and professional
audio industries.
Prior to starting his own venture, Sohmer worked for some of the top
firms in the PR business. From large agencies to niche boutiques, Sohmer
consistently generated results for global brands, start-up ventures, and
all points in between. Some of the industry leaders he previously worked
with include Sony Corporation of America, Panasonic Communications &
Systems Company, Toshiba America Consumer Products, Seiko Instruments
USA, JVC, Fuji Photo Film U.S.A, Marantz, and many others. (A list of
Sohmer Associates clients can be found on the Clients page.)
Among Sohmer’s strengths is an in-depth knowledge of technology
trade and consumer lifestyle media. This enables him to achieve multiple
placements for his clients on broadcast media and in a host of high-profile
consumer print outlets such as The New York Times and Parade. In addition
to using his media relations savvy to place clients’ stories in
relevant media, Sohmer has developed a media training program to help
clients deliver their messages in an authoritative and compelling manner
during interviews with print and broadcast outlets. He has also taught
media relations and the art of active listening as part of in-house training
programs.
Sohmer is successful at media relations because he understands how to
turn his clients’ messages into real news stories, which is a result
of his having worked on both sides of the publishing fence. As a contributor
to a wide variety of technology enthusiast media, he understands what
makes a real, publishable story as opposed to the self-serving promotional
materials so often distributed by competitors vying for the same space.
Sohmer received his B.A. in communications arts and sciences from Queens
College, NY. His professional affiliations include the Consumer Electronics
Association, the Audio Engineering Society, and the Public Relations Society
of America. |
